360 Recs

Add to Memories Share this!
Hey everyone!

I was hoping to get a few recs for some decent games for 3+ players on one Xbox 360 system. My friends and I love the Left 4 Dead franchise, but it would be cool if you could play more than 2 players at a time on the same console. I have a few arcade games that are good for a few players at a time, but I'd like to expand my collection. Anyone have any good recommendations for me?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

What does everyone think of this game? I didn't know what I thought at first and I really got into playing it. There are some issues like the gas mask and running out of ammo quickly, but it's an interesting story and has some nice graphics.

Does anyone play Sony's Free Realms? My daughter just started playing it and we got her a couple month membership but we are having a technical problem and their support just isn't working.  None of the hairs she has bought are showing up.  Her avatar is bald.  We have written back and forth with their customer support for the last two days with no fixes.  I have made sure everything is updated and tried reinstalling twice.  I am really stumped since I don't see why there would be a problem on our end since this is the same the computer I use to play WOW and have no problems.  If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.

Video Game Movies

Let's have a nice little hypothetical discussion.
As we all know, Hollywood has long run out of ideas and there has always been talk of video game adapatations onto the big screen.  The ones that have been adapated have been...less than satisfactory.  Potential movies are always running around the rumor mill and I have heard things about a Bioshock, Uncharted, or a potental Shadow of the Colossus film.  I am not sure of what to say about these since part of me is giddy of the idea of seeing one of my favorite games on the big screen, the adaptations generally miss what made them special in the first place.

Say you had to make a video game movie.  What games do you think have movie potential?  Who would you cast?  Director?  Special Effects?  Score?  Can a video game movie succeed or is it an idea best left alone?  Would you release a horrible movie-tie in game for your video game based movie?  Shower me guys with your creative ideas!

Anyone playing Deadly Premonition?

I just picked this game for the XBox 360 up a few days ago after reading a bunch of enthusiastic posts about it on various sites and rave reviews on Amazon. IGN gave the game a 2/10 and Destructoid gave it a 10/10. So it is a love it or hate it kind of game. So far I am really enjoying myself and I love the protagonist, Agent York, to pieces.

The biggest issues with the game are the graphics (which are very last gen) and controls that leave a lot to be desired. But if you are used to playing any of the older Resident Evil games the controls probably won't seem that bad to you and the graphics aren't that horrible. The outdoor scenes are kind of weak, but the character are done very well, I think. You get very much a sense of their personalities from how expressive they are.

Basically Deadly Premonition is a strange hybrid between Survival Horror and Open World games like GTA. There are lots of sidequests you can do as you run around town looking for clues about the "Raincoat Killer". It also heavily, heavily riffs on Twin Peaks. Apparently the creators actually spent a lot of time revamping the game to make it less Twins Peakish so they wouldn't get sued, but for anyone who has ever watched the show -- you won't miss the similarities. There's also all these 80s pop culture references and inappropriate music plays during serious scenes talking about muder and basically the game is just so much CRACK. It is completely addictive.

Here's a link to their website: Deadly Premonition

Are any of you playing this?

Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver

Hi guys! Is anyone else enjoying their new HG or SS games as much as I am? I got my copy of HG Sunday morning and I'm no spring break this week, so I've pretty much been playing it nonstop. And when I have to go to work, I've been wearing my Pokewalker! I work retail, so I can easily get at least 5k steps, depending how long my shift is.

So what does everybody think of the game? One of my favorite things is that your lead Pokemon now follows you all the time. I also love the Voltorb Flip game in the game corner! So nice to have a logic game rather than a luck game, like the slots.

explaterate

explaterate (eks-SPLAY-tuhr-ayt) - v., to talk continuously without stop, blab, gab.

An Americanism -- one of the many colorful word coinages made in the middle half of the 19th century, which was a golden age of vibrant journalistic writing as newspapers, especially those in or near frontier states, competed for readers with their energetic writing. This one caught on, but unlike many that did as well, this one didn't survive the century, though I occasionally hear it used by some of my Mid-Western relatives, who seem to have a suspicious familiarity with the works of Mark Twain -- who got his start as a colorful journalist. The word was coined in Boston in 1831, and like many slang words the origin is obscure, but is possibly a mash-up of "explain" and "elaborate," though there's also the theory that it's a frequentive form of "explate," an old variation of "explain" that was still lingering at the time -- possibly moping around in bars in the South Bay, waiting to return to popularity that never came, to mangle a metaphor.

But I'll stop here before I explaterate any further.

verbigeration n

[vuhr-bij-uh-RAY-shun]

Obsessive repetition of meaningless words and phrases

From Latin verbigerare (to talk, chat), from verbum (word) + gerere (to carry on)

Due to his extensive scientific vocabulary and mumbling speaking manner, it took quite a bit of time for his friends and acquaintance to realize that Professor Jones' conversation was highly prone to verbigeration.

SO! The latest issue of Game Informer has an article about Portal 2(!!!) which is coming out this Xmas. In the article it talked about a patch that was released without any announcement that retconned the ending to Portal, making it so that the two games are linked (basically, as Chell lies there in the parking lot at the end, someone thanks her for assuming the Party Submission Position and drags her off for further testing--they give this information in the article so that's why I'm not spoiler cutting it). The article made me want to replay Portal, so I loaded it into my 360 and, though it told me it was downloading new content for the game, when I got to the ending, it was the same as it always was.

So I'm wondering, was the patch only for the PC version? Has anyone else come across this or discovered the ending different on their 360 version?

Outside of that, who else is ridiculously excited about Portal 2??

Game Informer site with web supplements for the article if anyone is interested.

Heavy Rain: The Taxidermist DLC

Has anyone tried to purchase/download this piece of content on PSN? I'm a relatively new PS3 owner (having owned a 360 and a Wii for ages) and I cannot work out if I'm doing something wrong or PSN is borked. I'm in the game's main menu and when I select the DLC it brings me to the Playstation Store... But it's empty. There's no content there for me to select. I've exited the game and tried searching for it by going directly into the Store, but I just can't bloody find it anywhere.

Google isn't helping, aside from suggesting that I don't download it pre March 4th.

Any ideas folks?

Final Fantasy XIII Distress.

Add to Memories Share this!
Hello all lady and man gamers,

I am about 3 days away form receiving my copy of Final Fantasy XIII so in my excitement I have been reading a lot of reviews and hearing a lot of people's opinions about the game.

This, however, has gotten me a bit panicky. A lot of Japanese reviewers have given the game outstanding scores, whereas a lot of Western reviewers have given it one of the lower scores I've seen given to a Final Fantasy game. I've heard the game is starkingly linear, and that you can't explore towns and fields anymore like in the past games. Apparently it's even worse in terms of linearity than FFX was, not that I minded it though. Additionally, I've heard that there are little to none side quests or things like that... And this has, of course, made me worry about how long the game is going to be because I love long Final Fantasies...

I just need opinions from those of you who have played the game. No spoilers though please :) What's your take on it?

Codehunters vs Borderlands

Add to Memories Share this!
I just came across a wonderful short film called Codehunters and immediately noticed the similarities between the short and Borderlands. A quick Google search tells me that the folks at Gearbox recently admitted to being "inspired" by Codehunters.

What do you ladies think? Was there a little bit of inspiration or something a little more going on?

Impressed?

Without giving too much away of course..

How are you all like the story? The gameplay? The graphics?

Everything you were hoping for? Or did somethings not meet your expectations?

Close to finishing the game? Nowhere near the end? Upset that you have to go to school or work because all you want to do is play the game?

Just interested.

And once again, without giving too many things away, especially the ending if you've gotten there.

If you wish to talk about the ending, just say if you've liked it or not, not why.
